Practice conflict resolution and negotiation skills by exploring the case of oil-rich, but debt-burdened, Nigeria. Participants play the roles of international, national, and local actors taking part in negotiations critical to the future of the Niger River delta region.
Participants will take on the roles of eight parties involved in the political economy of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria -- ranging from the Nigerian military, to Shell Oil, to the IMF. A scenario is provided along with a private role sheet to give participants additional information about their assigned role's positions and interests. This simulation includes opportunities for participants to develop, debate, and vote on specific proposal plans to address the issues in the scenario and to take actions to gain leverage in their negotiations.
Training Focus: Negotiation; Conflict Resolution; Coalition-Building; Political & Economic Risk Analysis.
