For 30 years, the ICONS Project has been at the nexus of innovative research using participant-driven simulations. From policy planning exercises on national security, to basic research in political science, crisis behavior, education theory, psychology, and linguistics, ICONS has supported and contributed to a wide range of disciplines. Started when the Internet was a new phenomenon, ICONS pioneered the use of information technology to facilitate distributed simulations, where participants could interact without having to be in the same physical location. Today, the Project's online simulation platform, ICONSnet, continues to be an ideal tool for policy or basic research -- capturing every aspect of an exercise or experiment as it occurs and providing an array of flexible features to support different agendas.
