Video Conferencing is... ...the act of holding a conference between various participants at different sites via computer networks and through the transmission of audio and video data. A video camera, microphone, and speakers are mounted on the participants' computers, and as the participants commuicate with each other, their voices are carried over the network and delivered to each other's speaker, and images of whatever appears in front of the video cameras appear in windows on the other participant's monitor.

Why Use Video Conferencing?
Video conferencing turns online communication into a true meeting. (And isn't that what we all need, another meeting?) Seriously, it reintroduces non-textual communication, such as tone of voice, facial expression, "body language," etc., into the online world, allowing for a fuller and potentially more compelling exchange. By it's nature, video is often better for scientific or other demonstrations.
How to Use Conferencing:
To engage in video conferencing or hold a "video chat," users will need a digital camera, a microphone, and speakers, in addition to their personal computers. They'll also need the appropriate client software, such as CUSeeMe or Microsoft's NetMeeting, to send and receive audio and video data over the Internet.
