Introduction |
What is ICONSnet?ICONSnet, Project ICONS's simulation software, has been developed to support ICONS' on-line negotiations for participating secondary and postsecondary students. ICONSnet takes advantage of the recent enhancements in educational technology, specifically the explosion of the World Wide Web (WWW). ICONSnet is designed to reduce the technology learning curve for users, so that both teachers and students can focus their energy on the substantive and active learning aspects of the simulation experience. System RequirementsICONSnet is accessed via the World Wide Web. Users must have a computer that is capable of running a web browser and a connection to the Internet. A printer is also helpful. Although the program is best utilized with graphical browsers, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, DOS-based browsers may also be used. Please see Related Software for more information. Check out the Demonstration CommunityTo help participants become familiar with the new software, ICONS has created a demonstration community http://www.icons.umd.edu/demo.html. Please use this community to explore the various features of the new software. We will monitor all messages sent within this community, and will routinely clean out old messages, but you are welcome to log in as often as you like to practice reading and sending messages in this new software environment. ConventionsWe will observe the following conventions in this on-line tutorial:
